My dive supervisor called me out on my lift bag technique and I'm glad he did

I've been doing offshore work for about 4 years now, mostly in the Gulf. Last month, my supervisor watched me hook up a lift bag on a 200-pound valve and just shook his head. He said 'you're creating a pendulum every time you attach off-center like that.' I never really thought about it, but he was right, I was making it way harder on myself and risking the load swinging into the structure. Now I take the extra 30 seconds to center the attachment point, and my lifts come up smooth every time. Has anyone else had a simple piece of feedback like that totally change how you do a basic job?

Wait, so you're telling me that guy just straight up called you out like that on a real job? I've seen guys get sideways about getting critiqued on deck but it sounds like he actually gave a damn about you not smashing something. Honestly that pendulum thing is no joke, I watched a bag swing a 300 pound valve right into a pipe rack once, tore the whole setup down. Good on you for taking the feedback, a lot of guys would have just gotten defensive and kept doing it wrong.

HONESTLY I thought off-center was fine until I tried it YOUR way. Total game changer.
