Just figured out why my hose kept snagging on the pontoon job in Baltimore
Spent two days fighting my umbilical on a pier inspection under a floating dock in Baltimore harbor. Every time I'd turn, the hose would bind up on an old bolt sticking out of the fender pile, and I'd have to back up and untangle it. A guy on the crew who's been diving 22 years told me to run a short length of chain through a shackle on my harness and clip the hose off so it trails at my hip instead of dragging behind me. Cut my snag time to almost nothing the rest of the week. Anyone else rig their umbilical a specific way for tight dock work, or do you just deal with it?
Funny how the fix is usually just moving where something hangs, not buying new gear. Same thing with my tool bag, once I started clipping it to my chest instead of letting it swing off my belt I stopped knocking stuff into the water. Dock work has a way of teaching you to keep everything tight to your body huh?
