Heard a dive supervisor say saturation diving is going away in the Gulf
Was getting coffee near Port Fourchon last week and overheard two supervisors talking. One claimed with ROVs getting better, saturation jobs below 300 feet are drying up fast in the Gulf. But I still see plenty of postings for mixed gas work out of Morgan City. Is it just the deep stuff fading, or are we really losing whole sectors of the trade? What are you all seeing?

ROVs are getting better but they still can't match a human's feel on a flange or a hot stab. That deep stuff isn't going anywhere, just shifting to more specialized work. The real issue is operators trying to cut costs, not the tech replacing us entirely.

Preach, man. Cost cutting is the real enemy here, not the tech itself. Operators trying to save a few bucks always end up making things harder for everyone in the long run. Glad to see someone else calling it like it is.
