Dropped $260 on a "wet welding cert shortcut" from a guy in Morgan City and got nothing but a PDF
Met a guy at a dive shop in Morgan City who swore he could get me a wet welding cert in 2 weeks for $260 if I paid cash up front, no class needed. Sent the money, and all I got back was a generic PDF he clearly pulled off some website, no cert number, no registry, nothing. Anyone else get burned like this, or am I the only one who fell for the shortcut pitch?
That PDF scam is old as dirt down there, the tell is always the same, a real wet welding cert has to go through an accredited school and gets logged with the AWS, and no guy at a dive shop can just hand you a number for cash. What nobody has said yet is the commercial diving side is way worse than welding, the ADCI card is the one that actually gets you on a boat, and that requires logged dives and a physical, so if you were chasing wet welding you probably skipped the part that really matters. Save every text and the cash app or zelle record, and file with the Louisiana AG, because these guys usually run the same play on five or six people before they skip town. Morgan City is a small world, somebody at one of the real dive companies probably knows exactly who this is.
