Bought a cheap secondhand drysuit off a guy in Seattle, leaked like a sieve on the first harbor job. Cost me $800 and a day's pay.

@james672 is right about leak checks, but sometimes they don't catch everything. Buddy of mine had a cheap drysuit that passed a basic test but the zipper gave out halfway through a December dive in Puget Sound. He spent the rest of the day shivering in a truck with the heat on full blast.
