The vibe at my local shop changed so much in a year
Used to be a chill spot where you could talk about old Claremont X-Men runs or weird indie stuff, but now it's all about the next movie trailer and who's getting cast. I went in last week and the owner, Dave, said he had to clear out half the back issues to make room for Funko Pops because that's what sells now. Feels like the actual comic fans got pushed out. Anyone else's shop go through this?

Remember when shops had those big spinner racks of comics right up front? My old spot replaced theirs with a whole wall of those plastic pop figures still in the box. I tried to find the new issue of something last month and had to ask, it was buried behind a display for a superhero energy drink. The owner just shrugged and said the drink company paid for the spot. Makes you wonder what they're even selling anymore.

Found a smaller shop that still feels like a clubhouse.

Man that sucks so much lol. A whole wall of Funko Pops sounds like a nightmare. I still miss my old spot that had the longboxes organized by publisher and then alphabetically, made digging for back issues actually fun instead of a chore like it is now. It's rough when the owner just gives up and lets the merch take over, feels like they don't even care about the books anymore.
