Serious question, do you buy the single issue or wait for the trade?
My shop in Dallas only got 2 copies of that new indie book and I grabbed one, but now I'm second guessing whether I should've just waited for the collected edition like I do with most stuff. What do you all usually do when it's a series you're not 100% sure about yet?
Waiting for the trade is honestly the boring move and people act like it's the smart one. Those single issues are the only way indie books survive at all, and if everyone sits around waiting for the collection, that book you grabbed never gets a second printing and the whole series dies. Two copies at your shop is exactly the problem, low orders mean the shop won't reorder, and the writer sees bad numbers and moves on to something else. Plus you lose all the stuff trades don't give you, the letters pages, the backup art, the actual feeling of being there when it drops. If you're not sure about a book, buying the issue is how you find out, and a few bucks is nothing. Worst case you're out the price of a coffee, but you helped keep a comic alive either way.
