PSA: My local shop in Portland changed how I find new comics
I was at Bridge City Comics last month just browsing the new releases. The owner, Mike, saw me looking at a random #1 issue and asked if I liked the writer's other work. I told him I had no idea who that was! He spent about 15 minutes walking me through a few writers and their best story arcs, not just the newest books. Now I pick comics by the creative team first, not just the character or cover. It made finding stuff I actually enjoy way easier. Has anyone else had a shop employee give them a game-changing tip like that?

Exactly! That's how you find the good stuff.

Ever notice that's true for finding a good mechanic or a decent takeout spot too? You gotta dig past the obvious stuff.

Oh man that is SO true! I've noticed people just go with whatever is easiest or most popular, and that's usually how you end up with a halfway job or a meal that's just okay. The REAL gold is always hidden a bit, you just have to be willing to put in a little effort to find it.
