My uncle told me to bag and board every single issue, even dollar bin stuff
I thought he was being over the top. But after a pipe burst in my basement last year, the only comics that survived were the ones I had bagged. Lost about 200 issues that were just sitting in a short box. Now I bag everything, even that beat up copy of X-Force #1. Has anyone else had a storage disaster change how they store their collection?

After a pipe burst in my basement" - that's rough, sorry you lost those issues. The thing nobody talks about is how bags can trap moisture if they're not the right kind. I had a friend who bagged everything in those cheap polypropylene bags and when humidity got high in his storage unit, the bags actually held moisture against the books and caused mold. Now I only use Mylites for anything worth over $10 and the standard E. Gerber bags for the rest. Also learned the hard way that boards need to be acid free and changed every few years or they'll yellow your comics. The dollar bin stuff might not be valuable but if you're keeping it, it's worth the extra few cents to do it right.

@river_hart18 you're totally right about the moisture thing. I found out the hard way when I moved and kept my long boxes in the garage for a month. The bags I had were those cheap ones from the local shop and the humidity made the top books feel clammy. Now I only use Mylites for anything I care about. Even the dollar bin stuff I bag in E. Gerber standard because it's not worth the gamble. Also, you gotta check your boards every year or so. I had a run of X-Men from the 80s that got yellowed because I left the same boards in for like five years. Just swap them out and you'll be fine.
