My longbox COLLAPSED last night and scattered books everywhere
I had this cheap plastic longbox from the 90s that finally gave out under the weight of about 150 issues. The bottom just cracked right open around 2am and sent comics flying across my bedroom floor. Has anyone else had a storage solution fail on them like this?

I read somewhere that the old plastic longboxes from the 90s were prone to cracking because the plastic got brittle over time, especially if they were stored in a basement or garage. I had a similar scare when my wooden crate started splitting at the corners after I packed it with about 200 issues. Ended up having to reinforce all the seams with duct tape.

Did you try using some kind of plastic restorer or just the tape? Honestly, I've been through this myself with those old longboxes and it's the worst feeling when they start cracking. Tbh, I found that storing them in a cool, dry place helped a ton, but once the plastic gets brittle, there's no fixing it completely. I ended up moving all my valuable issues to a couple of sturdy cardboard moving boxes lined with cardboard dividers, which has held up way better. Ngl, the original 90s longboxes were never built to last, they were just cheap and everywhere back then. If you're still using those, I'd say keep the weight light, like 150 issues max, or you'll be hunting for a whole new storage solution in a year.
