I used to roll my eyes at folks who bought fancy graded comics
Always thought it was just wasting money on plastic bricks until my buddy showed me his CGC 9.8 Amazing Spider-Man #300 he grabbed for $400 back in 2018. Seeing how much even banged up copies sell for now changed my mind quick. Anyone else get proven wrong about collecting habits?

That article from Bleeding Cool a few months back really opened my eyes. They did a whole breakdown on how grading stops people from selling reprinted copies as originals. Scary stuff. One guy lost $2,000 on a fake Batman #1 because he trusted a raw copy with no paperwork. Grading cuts that risk down to almost nothing. Plus like you said about the peace of mind. Knowing a book is legit and handled right makes it feel solid. Not just another floppy waiting to get dinged up in a box.

Started off the same way honestly. Thought it was just another way to milk money out of collectors until I saw how much a properly stored 9.8 holds its value compared to a raw copy that gets beat up from normal handling. The grading part is what got me too - you can drop $50 on getting a book graded and if it comes back a 9.6 or higher, it basically pays for itself if you ever want to sell. Plus there's something nice about knowing your copy is legit and not a reprint or a restoration job. The peace of mind alone is worth it for me now, especially with all the sketchy sellers out there trying to pass off cleaned up books as original.
