Appreciation post: That one time at a con in Chicago a collector corrected my grading on a Silver Age book

I was at a small booth at C2E2 last year bragging about my copy of Amazing Spider-Man #50 I thought was a 9.0. This older guy behind me just goes 'son, that spine is way too loose for a 9.0, you're looking at a solid 7.5.' I was kinda embarrassed but he showed me exactly how to check the staples and corners without taking it out of the bag. Turned out he was right and I ended up selling it for way less than I thought but at least I didn't get ripped off. Has anyone else had a random stranger at a show save them from overpaying or overpricing something?

Yeah that spine comment hits hard. Crowd wisdom beats solo pride every time.

Yo word. That reminds me of this time my buddy tried to fix his own car engine after watching a YouTube video. He was so sure he had it figured out, spent like 4 hours cussing at it. Finally we got the whole group chat involved and someone pointed out he was missing a simple clip that cost like two bucks. Now we joke that his pride cost him a whole weekend lol. Its wild how one extra set of eyes can save you from banging your head against the wall.
