A long-time collector told me to stop bagging my comics wrong

I've been putting my comics in bags with the flap facing the same way as the opening for years. A guy at my local shop in Austin said I was doing it backwards and showed me how to flip it so dust doesn't settle on the top edge. He also said to use a piece of cardboard behind every book, not just the expensive ones. Has anyone else gotten basic storage advice they wish they'd known sooner?

I don't know, I've been bagging mine with the flap on the same side as the opening for like 15 years and never had a dust problem... but I also keep them in short boxes with lids so maybe that's why. As for the cardboard behind every book, I kinda disagree there. I mean yeah, it adds protection, but I've got hundreds of dollar bin books that I just don't care that much about. The cardboard takes up space and makes the boxes heavier. I'll only bother with the cardboard on stuff worth $20 or more, the rest can just breathe a little.

Yeah, that cardboard behind every book thing hit me hard after I found a water stain on a cheap issue I didn't bother backing.
