Took 5 tries to scan a QR code for my campus gym class

Okay so I showed up to the rec center at USF last Wednesday for a spin class and the door had this QR code you had to scan to sign in. My phone camera kept refusing to focus on it because the print was on a weird glossy poster with a light reflection. I stood there for like 20 minutes blocking people, then a staff member finally told me to use the flashlight mode and step back. Has anyone else had a simple tech thing eat up way more of your day than it should've?
