Picked the 8am stats section over the 2pm one and I'm paying for it

When I signed up for stats 101 back in August, I had two sections left: 8am Tuesday and Thursday with a prof everyone warns you about, or 2pm Monday and Wednesday with the nice one. I picked 8am because it kept my afternoons free for my campus job at the dining hall. Six weeks in, I've missed three classes already and my grade on the first test was a 71. My roommate took the 2pm section and got an 88, which stings a little. Anyone else made a schedule choice for the wrong reason and had it backfire?
