My freshman self vs. senior self study habits are unrecognizable

Started at UGA in fall 2020 and I'd literally highlight entire textbook pages, thinking that counted as studying. Failed my first biology exam with a 58. Now I do active recall with flashcards and teach concepts out loud, been pulling A's for the past 3 semesters. What changed it was a tutor at the academic center who made me explain mitosis back to her, took about 6 weeks to really click. Has anyone else hit that moment where you realize you were just busy, not actually learning?
