I majored in Bio for 2 semesters, switched to Communications, and my GPA jumped from a 2.4 to a 3.7
I spent my first two semesters grinding through Bio at Ohio State because my parents kept saying it was the safe path. I was pulling all nighters in the library for organic chem and still walking out of exams with a 58. My advisor finally sat me down and said point blank, 'why are you doing this to yourself?' I switched to Communications spring semester and suddenly the work made sense to me. I could write a 10 page paper in one sitting and actually enjoy it, while my old lab reports felt like pulling teeth. My GPA went from a 2.4 to a 3.7 by the end of sophomore year and I stopped dreading Sundays. The crazy part is I landed a social media job at a nonprofit in Columbus that pays $48k and I actually like going in. Anyone else switch majors later than they wish they had?
My buddy went through almost the same thing at Toledo, did two years of pre-med because his whole family is doctors and he was dying inside. He failed anatomy twice and finally admitted to himself he was only there because of the pressure. He moved into marketing and it was like a switch flipped, he was running the student paper's ad stuff and actually showing up to class. His GPA went from like a 2.2 to a 3.5 and now he does brand work for a bank in Cleveland and makes decent money. The part that gets me is how long he waited because he was scared of what his dad would say. Turns out his dad got over it in like a month once he saw the grades.
