Hot take: I was rereading every chapter twice for a full year before I figured out it was slowing me down
Last semester in my organic chem class I kept getting 68s on quizzes and couldn't figure out why, since I was putting in like 3 hours a night in the library on the 4th floor. One night my roommate Priya saw me highlighting the same paragraph for the third time and asked me what I was doing. I explained my method, read every chapter twice front to back before class, and she just looked at me and said "so you read it twice and never once tested yourself?" That hit hard. I switched to covering the page and trying to say the concepts out loud, and doing the end of chapter problems cold before reading the answers. My next quiz was an 84 and I was honestly mad at myself for wasting all that time. The big thing was I confused the feeling of knowing a page with actually knowing it. Anyone else have a study habit that felt productive until someone called it out?
