Blew $150 on a "must-have" textbook that I opened exactly once
I bought this giant chemistry book after my professor swore we'd use it every week. Spent the whole semester using free PDFs from the library instead. Anybody else get tricked into buying a book that just sat on your shelf?

Blew my own $120 on a "must have" sociology textbook freshman year. Thing sat on my desk collecting dust until I finally used it as a monitor stand. My roommate ended up borrowing it once to prop up his laptop, that's the most action it ever saw. These professors must get a kickback from the publishers or something, I swear. Glad you found the PDF route, saves a ton of guilt when you never crack the spine.

Paid $80 for a bio textbook that ended up being a perfect doorstop for my dorm room.
