Paid $40 for a coding bootcamp prep course and it was just YouTube videos repackaged

I went through the exact same thing last year. Paid $50 for a "premium" prep course and found out the videos were all just linked from a free YouTube playlist. The worst part is they didn't even bother to re-record or add anything original. What helped me was just building small projects on my own while following free tutorials. I also joined a few Discord groups where people were studying together and that was way more useful than the paid stuff. My advice is to check the refund policy right away and use that money on a real course from somewhere like Udemy or Coursera instead.

My cousin once paid $30 for a "tax prep guide" that was literally just screenshots of the IRS website with arrows drawn on them. I mean, at least you got actual working video links out of it, I guess.

The whole "pay for what you could get for free online" thing is basically a tax on being in a hurry or not knowing any better. It's like how people sell "life hacks" on TikTok that are just repackaged common sense. Or how those "how to get rich quick" books are just the same advice your grandpa gave you about saving money. Money just feels like it disappears faster when you're desperate for a shortcut. In the end, it's always the people who make you feel like you're missing out who are just selling you something you could find yourself.
