Overheard a kid at the Grand Rapids library say Python was 'too old' and I'm still thinking about it
Was helping out at a free intro to coding workshop at the Grand Rapids library last Saturday and a 15 year old told his friend Python was too old to bother learning. I learned on Python 2 back in high school and thought it was the cool new thing, but I guess now everyone wants to jump straight to AI tools that write code for you. Took me a bit to get why it bugged me, but I think it's that he never tried typing out a basic loop and seeing it work, he just assumes the tool handles it. That little hit of getting your own code to run is what got me hooked, and I wonder if skipping it makes people quit faster when stuff breaks. Anyone here learn on something that feels ancient now and still think it was worth it?
