Wrote off high feed mills for years, then a guy in Dayton ran one in front of me
I always figured high feed tooling was hype for people who couldn't keep a real face mill running. Then last month I watched a guy at a shop off Needmore Road pull a 2 inch high feed cutter through 4140 at 900 ipm and the inserts did not even blink. He was taking about .030 depth per pass and the spindle load sat around 40 percent the whole time. That was two hours of roughing done in 20 minutes, so now I want to know who else has made the switch and what feeds you actually trust on your machines.
