TIL that $340 Renishaw probe I almost returned paid for itself in one job
Everyone on here kept saying probes are a waste of money and you should just touch off with an edge finder like the old guys do. I bought a used Renishaw OMP40 for $340 anyway on a whim, and then a rush job came in with 60 parts that all needed a bore located within 0.0005. I set the probe to run the find on every part and it caught two fixtures that had shifted on the vise, which would have scrapped about $1,200 in stock. What probe setups are you all running, and do you trust them on rough stock or only after a cleanup pass?
