Six months with a probe and I still hate hand-tramming

I ran a Haas VF-2 for years without a spindle probe, just edge finders and paper shims. Got a job in March that needed 40 parts with a 0.0005 tolerance on the bore location, so my boss finally let me set up a Renishaw. First week was rough, I kept second guessing the readings. But after 20 parts I stopped using the indicator for setup altogether on that machine. Now I tram with the probe in about 4 minutes versus the 25 it used to take with a dial test. My question is, how many of you still keep a manual indicator on hand for those odd setups where the probe just won't fit? Has anyone else gone full probe and regretted it when the battery died mid-run?
