Shoutout to the old timer who told me to track my scrap rate
I always thought scrap was just part of the job, but he made me log every part I tossed for a month. Just hit a 2.3% scrap rate on a 500-piece aluminum order, my lowest ever. That's down from like 7% last year. Seeing the numbers drop made me actually focus on my fixturing and tool checks. What's a good scrap rate target for you guys on production runs?

Totally feel you on how eye opening tracking is. Honestly, watching that number drop is like a reward system for doing the little stuff right. I'd say under 3% is a solid goal for most production runs if your material and tooling are consistent.

Yeah, tracking it is what made the difference for me too. Like @faith_lopez48 said, just writing it down forces you to see the problem spots. I aim for under 3% on steady work now.
