Shoutout to the old timer at a machine shop in Cleveland
I was swapping out a worn collet on my Haas and this older guy walked over and just watched for a minute. He said "you're fighting the drawbar instead of helping it" and showed me a quick tap trick that saved me 20 minutes of frustration. Anyone else had a random stranger give you a tip that changed how you do a basic setup?
Got lucky" is exactly what I would've said too, @seth_green85, honestly. But then my buddy tried it on his old fridge that's been humming weird for months and it actually stopped for like a week, which was wild. I'm still not fully convinced it's not just some kind of placebo thing, but he did it again when it came back and it worked again, so maybe the tap trick isn't total bs. My take now is it's probably gotta be the right spot AND the right amount of force, not just a random smack. Definitely earned the benefit of the doubt from me lol.
