Rant: The new shop in Springfield had their coolant mix so thin you could see through it
I stopped by that new machine shop on 5th Street last Thursday to drop off a part. Walked past their Haas and the coolant looked like weak tea. I asked the guy running it and he said they mix it 'by feel' to save money. How can you run a VF-2 like that and expect any tool life? It's not just about cost, it's about not wrecking your spindle over a few gallons of concentrate. Who else has seen shops cutting corners on the basics?

Wow, that's a fast way to burn through endmills.

My old foreman at the Dayton plant used to run the sump so lean it was basically blue water. We went through three spindles on a single Mazak in under two years. The bean counters never did connect the dots.
