Pro tip: Use a test indicator to check your vises before any job

I was at a shop in Spokane last week and watched a guy lose a $200 part because his vise jaws were off by .003”. He never even checked. Now I spend 10 seconds with my Mitutoyo test indicator before every setup. Anyone else do a quick vise check before hitting go?

Measure once cut twice applies to more than woodworking.

Man, same thing happened to me a few months back. I was rushing a job and skipped the indicator check, ended up scrapping a pretty expensive bracket because the vise was tilted. Now I make it a habit to just sweep the jaws quick before every part.
