My old lead hand's tip about coolant ratios was spot on
When I started running the new Haas VF-4 last month, I kept getting tool chatter on stainless. My lead hand, Rick, told me to stop trusting the machine's auto-mix and set the coolant at 8% manually. I figured he was just stuck in his ways, but after two late shifts of fighting it, I tried his number. Night and day difference, the finish came out clean and I didn't burn through inserts like before. Has anyone else found that the factory preset ratios run too rich for certain jobs?

Factory settings are just a starting point, every job tells you what it really needs.
