Flood coolant was lapping my ankles until I tried a different filter mesh size
I was getting fed up with my sump clogging every two days on a Haas VF-2 in our shop near Akron. Switched from a standard 100-micron mesh to a 60-micron one on the coolant pump intake and now I'm going a full week between cleanouts. Anyone else play around with mesh sizes on their machines or just run whatever came with it?

You ever try going the other way and running a finer mesh? I went from 100 to 50 micron on my VF-3 and it slowed the flow way down but kept the coolant way cleaner. Had to clean the filter more often though, maybe every three days instead of five. Feels like a trade off no matter what you pick.

Oh yeah, that "every three days instead of five" part really hits home. I tried 50 micron once on my machine and it was like the coolant turned into molasses, but you're right that it stayed way cleaner. Honestly though, I ended up going back to 100 because I got tired of cleaning filters so often, it just wasn't worth the headache for me.
