Everyone says check your coolant weekly. My pump ran dry on a Friday night and scrapped 14 parts before anyone noticed.
Last Friday our Haas VF-2 alarm tripped around 9pm on the second shift. The coolant level sensor was gummed up with dried chips, so the pump kept pulling from a tank that was basically empty. By the time the operator on nights caught it, the tool had welded aluminum to the fixture on 14 of our 16 parts, a $600 slug of scrap in one shot. I argued for two months that the weekly coolant check was overkill, and now I'm the guy cleaning the float switch with a toothbrush every Monday. What's your go-to fix so the sensor doesn't lie to you, run a dipstick check or just swap the float for something electronic?
