Watched my neighbor throw away a perfectly good bike frame last month

He was clearing out his garage and just tossed the whole metal frame in the regular trash. I asked him about it and he said recycling was too much hassle. This happens a lot, I think. People don't see small things as a big deal, but metal production is a huge source of carbon. That one frame might not seem like much, but it all adds up. I ended up taking it to the scrap yard myself, which took maybe 15 minutes. It's the mindset of 'it's just one thing' that really holds us back. How do you guys talk to people about this without sounding like you're judging them?

Frame it as lost money instead of wasted effort. Most people don't know scrap metal has cash value, so they see no reward for the hassle. Pointing out they just threw away ten bucks for five minutes of work hits different than an eco lecture.

Totally, my uncle once left a whole copper pipe at a demo site...
