Vent: People keep saying 'just plant trees' like it's a magic fix

I keep seeing posts where folks act like planting a tree solves everything. It doesn't. A new tree takes decades to pull down real carbon, and if you plant it wrong or in the wrong place, it dies. My crew worked on a city project in Portland where they planted 100 saplings in a dry area without a water plan, and over half were dead in a year. We need to focus way more on cutting emissions now, not just hoping trees will save us later. What's a better local project you've seen that actually makes a dent fast?

Yeah, and my favorite is when they plant a tree right over a gas line.

My cousin works for the city and he says they hit a line at least once a month. How does that even happen with all the maps they have? Don't they check before digging? It seems like such an easy thing to avoid.

My buddy works for a utility company and he told me they once dug up a spot marked by three different flags and still hit a water main. Said the GPS was off by like 15 feet that day, so the maps just weren't matching what was actually underground.
