Talked to a local farmer who changed how I see composting
I ran into a guy named Tom at the farmers market last Saturday who grows organic veggies on about 3 acres outside of town. He told me he stopped using synthetic fertilizer two years ago and now relies on compost he makes from food scraps from two local restaurants. He said his soil health got way better and his water bill dropped by almost 40 bucks a month. It hit me different because I always thought composting was just for hippies or people with huge gardens, not regular folks in a city. He said anyone can do it even in a small bin on a balcony, and now I'm actually setting one up this weekend. Has anyone else here tried composting in a small apartment or with limited space?

Fair enough but Ive seen city composting bins attract rats and fruit flies pretty bad unless you really stay on top of it. Not saying it cant work, just that its more hassle than people expect in tight spaces.

Try adding brown cardboard on top, that cuts the smell and the flies way down.
