Saw solar panels on every roof in Tucson but nobody talks about the dust problem

Drove through Tucson last week for work. Every other house had shiny new panels. But my buddy who lives there told me he spends 2 hours a month just hosing his off. In the dry season, the dust layer kills 15% of his output. He showed me his app, the numbers dropped every week after a dust storm. Nobody in the green groups mentions how much water you waste keeping them clean. Has anyone else dealt with this in dry climates?

Yeah, wiping them down with a dry squeegee once a month worked way better than hosing.

Nobody ever talks about what happens when the squeegee leaves micro-scratches over time though.
