PSA: I bought $300 of carbon offsets for a Phoenix to Denver flight and then found out half my money funded a project that got shut down
I sat at my kitchen table reading the fine print on the offset receipt and saw the cookstove project in Kenya was listed as 'no longer active,' so I started calling the airline to ask for my money back instead of buying more offsets.

Call the airline anyway since some of them will refund if the project stopped, you just have to push past the first person who says no. Ask for the name of the offset provider they used and file a complaint with them directly, because the airline is just the middleman. Next time buy offsets straight from a group like Gold Standard so you can see if the project is still running before you pay.
