My town's compost pickup almost collapsed last month and 40 of us kept it running with our own bins
Our city compost program here in Ann Arbor dropped from weekly to every other week back in March, and the flyer said it was a staffing issue, not a budget one. About 40 of us on the neighborhood list decided to just share bins on the off weeks so nothing rotted in the garage. Last week the program coordinator emailed saying they're going back to weekly pickup starting June 1 because the drop in volume on off weeks proved people would actually use shared spots. I filled my bin 11 times over those 8 weeks and only had one batch go sour. Has anyone else had a city program quietly shrink and then come back after neighbors just handled it themselves?
