My neighbor's comment about his lawn made me check our city's water report
He was bragging about using 800 gallons a day just on sprinklers to keep it green through the summer. I looked up our municipal water source, and it turns out 70% of our supply comes from a reservoir that's been below average for three years. It clicked that the 'perfect lawn' is a huge part of the problem here. Has anyone else had a local wake-up call about outdoor water use?

What kind of lawn even needs 800 gallons a day? That's wild. Our town sent out a notice last year about voluntary cutbacks because the aquifer was low. Seeing brown spots on my grass felt bad, but wasting that much water feels worse.

Seriously, that's a golf course amount of water. I let my lawn go dormant last summer and it bounced right back this spring. A few brown spots are way better than draining the whole town's supply.

Yeah @amygonzalez, I read some places fine people for that kind of waste.
