My neighbor laughed when I said I was switching to a lawn mower that runs on batteries instead of gas

I live in a suburb outside Pittsburgh, and last spring I mentioned to my neighbor Jerry that I was buying an electric mower. He laughed and said it wouldn't have enough power to cut through the thick grass we get here. Well, it's been 8 months now and I've cut my yard every two weeks without a single issue. The kicker is that I'm saving about $40 a month on gas and oil I used to buy for my old gas mower. Jerry's gas mower actually broke down twice this summer and he borrowed mine once. Has anyone else had a neighbor doubt your switch to something electric for yard work?

Respectfully, Jerry might have had a point about the thick grass. I tried a battery mower two years ago and it choked on the damp, heavy clumps that build up after a good rain here in the Pacific Northwest. Had to go back to gas just to get through the back half of the yard without stopping every five minutes to clear the blades. Glad it's working for you, but the batteries aren't magic for everyone.

Switched to a twin blade battery mower and it tore through my wet PNW grass no problem.
