My cousin in Phoenix told me his new truck was 'just a drop in the bucket' when I asked about the gas mileage.

We were at a family cookout last weekend and he said that with a straight face while flipping burgers, and I just stood there holding my plate wondering how you even start a talk after that.

Buddy of mine bought a boat last year, said the same thing about fuel. He sold it after one summer because filling it up felt like setting money on fire.

That phrase is about more than money. It shows how some people see resources as endless. The real talk starts when the bucket's empty.

Yeah, that's when you ask what the bucket costs, like jesseb20 said.
