I got into a fight with my HOA over native plants

Last spring in Austin, I replaced my front lawn with drought-resistant wildflowers and grasses. The HOA sent a violation notice calling it 'unkempt' and demanded I put in sod. I mean, I get they want things neat, but this is Texas and we're in a drought. I wrote back with photos and a list of the native species, explaining how they save water and support pollinators. It took three months of back and forth, but they finally backed off. Has anyone else had to push back on rules that actually hurt local climate efforts?

Yeah, I was just reading about this. Some HOAs have these super strict rules written like twenty years ago that basically force you to waste water. It's crazy. There was a whole article about people in Arizona getting fined for having gravel and cactus instead of grass. Like, we live in a desert. It feels like they care more about some old idea of a perfect green lawn than actually doing something good for the place we live. Good on you for sticking with it and showing them the facts. That back and forth sounds like a huge pain, but at least they listened.
