That time a Quake modder showed me why my textures looked like garbage
Some guy on the Doomworld forums named PixelPusher2000 spent 20 minutes explaining how my WAD's textures looked flat because I wasn't using a proper palette and contrast mapping. He even sent me a fixed version of my map for Blood Falls to compare side by side, which finally made it click. Has anyone else gotten a random stranger to fix their whole workflow?

PixelPusher saved me from another week of ugly maps.

Wait till you spend three hours squinting at the default color scheme before remembering you can just click "reset to defaults" and call it a day. It's like finding out your car has a cup holder after you've been holding your coffee the whole drive. PixelPusher at least has the decency to let me pick a nice green for trees instead of that puke color the old tool gave me. Makes me wonder what other obvious stuff I'm missing in my life.

...and I can't believe how long I put up with the default ones. PixelPusher doesn't look fancy but it just works for what most of us need. I've tried a handful of editing tools over the years and this one sticks because it doesn't crash or slow down my machine. The quick zoom and color tools just make sense for fixing ugly terrain or roads. It is not perfect for everything but for basic map cleanup it is the best I have found.
