That time a guy on a forum told me to run Quake at 320x240 for better hit detection
Some user named glitchwizard claimed that lower resolution made enemy hitboxes line up better with the sprites. I tried it last week on a custom map pack I've been building. 320x240 just made everything a blurry mess and my crosshair placement felt worse than normal. Maybe it works on original hardware with a CRT but on my modern LCD it was a disaster. I wasted two evenings trying to get used to it before I switched back to 640x480 and instantly played better. Has anyone else fallen for one of those old internet tricks that just don't hold up anymore?

Yeah I totally fell for this one back in the day on a Quake forum, thought lower res would give me some kind of edge. After reading your post I went back and tried it with a CRT and it's still garbage, the game just looks worse without helping anything.

Wait wait, Alex Lewis actually went back and tried it with a CRT too? I mean that's dedication right there, digging out an old monitor just to test this myth. Idk why but the idea of someone hauling a CRT out of their garage or basement for a Quake experiment is kind of hilarious to me. And it still sucked? Wow, that's gotta sting even more than just trying it on a modern screen. Like you went through all that trouble and the payoff was just a blurry mess on another piece of old tech. Honestly makes me feel better about not having a CRT to even attempt this stupid trick with.
