Talked to a Quake player who never used mods and it threw me off
Met a guy at a retro game meetup last Saturday who's been playing Quake since 96 but never once installed a single mod. He said the base game is perfect and mods just break the feel. Made me wonder if I'm missing something by always stacking custom maps and texture packs.

Why would someone play Quake for almost 30 years and not try even one mod to see what's different... doesn't that get stale? The base game is great but mods like Arcane Dimensions basically built whole new worlds on top of the original engine. I bet if he tried just one good single player mod it'd change his mind about mods breaking the feel.

Get where you're coming from. I had the same reaction when I met a Doom fan who only played the original episodes and never touched Final Doom or any of the community megawads. Some people just find their comfort zone and stick with it. Arcane Dimensions really is something else though, I remember loading it up for the first time and being blown away by how it felt like a whole new game without losing that classic Quake feel.
