Pro tip: don't buy the $45 'HD texture pack' for Quake on that old mod site, it broke my whole setup
So I've been messing with Quake source ports for a while now and thought I'd treat myself to one of those paid texture packs off a site I won't name. Dropped $45 on it, which is real money for a game from 1996. Installed it, and right away my framerate tanked from a smooth 60 down to like 15. Then half the walls in E1M1 turned into these blurry smear things. Turns out the pack was made for a different engine build and the guy who sold it stopped replying to emails in 2022. I got a refund through PayPal after 3 weeks of back and forth, but I lost a whole Saturday night trying to fix it. Sticking with the free community packs from the forums from now on. Anyone got a good free HD pack that actually plays nice with Darkplaces? I'd love to know what you all run.

Tbh my buddy dropped cash on one of those packs too and spent two nights fighting with config files before he just wiped everything. He runs the free Quake HD pack off ModDB now and it works fine with Darkplaces.
