Overheard a kid at the library say 'why would anyone mod a game from 1996'
Made me realize how many people just see old games as outdated junk instead of a sandbox for creativity. Anyone else feel like we're a dying breed of tinkerers?

Man, right!? That kid's gonna learn the hard way when they realize modern games are locked down tighter than a drum. Modding an old game like Daggerfall or even something from 1996 like Quake is way easier because the code is more open and the community has had decades to figure out the ins and outs. You can literally rewrite whole sections of the game without fighting some anti-tamper system. Plus, the hardware limits from back then mean you can run a modded build on a toaster and still get something unique. It's not about the graphics being "good", it's about the space to play around in, you know?

But wouldn't a kid just get bored without the modern graphics and polish?
