Hit 1000 downloads on my Doom level last night and nearly fell out of my chair
I threw together a small map for Ultimate Doom over a weekend just messing with slime pits and dark corridors. I put it on the idgames archive and forgot about it for like two months. Logged in yesterday to see the counter at 1004 downloads and I couldn't believe people actually played my janky level. Has anyone else had a mod or map blow up way more than you expected?

Wait you had a friend who did something similar? My buddy Mark spent like three weeks on a Team Fortress 2 custom map back in high school, just some warehouse with a bad respawn room. He put it on GameBanana and forgot about it. Two years later he logs in and sees it has 12,000 downloads. Turns out some YouTuber used it for a frag video and it just snowballed. He still brings it up at parties like he's some kind of gaming legend now.

That "12,000 downloads" bit is wild, people really latch onto anything a YouTuber touches. My slime pit map got 1,000 and I thought that was crazy, so I can't even picture 12K. Guess it just takes one random person to share it and then boom, everyone's crawling through your janky hallways. Funny how the stuff you throw out there on a whim ends up being the thing that sticks. Probably means we should all be more careful about what we upload, ha.
