Had to choose between Brutal Doom and Project Brutality for my latest playthrough

I went with Project Brutality because the extra weapon mods felt more interesting, but now I'm wondering if the performance hit on my old PC was worth it - has anyone else had trouble running it on a system from 2012?

Take it easy on yourself, man. Your 2012 rig is probably fine if you drop a few settings and maybe tweak the resolution a bit. In my experience, Project Brutality's extra bells and whistles are fun but not worth killing your frame rate over.
