Can we talk about how Brutal Doom ruined the original game's balance

Oh man, I used to be TOTALLY on the "Brutal Doom makes it better" side for years. But then I went back and played the original 1993 levels without any mods, and it really clicked for me. The new weapons just shred everything too fast, so there's no reason to use the pistol or shotgun once you get the big guns. A lot of the original level design relied on you being stuck with weaker weapons and having to think about ammo, and Brutal Doom just throws all that out the window.
