Am I the only one who thinks auto aim in old Doom mods is ruining the whole point of making them?
I was scrolling through a Doom modding Discord last Friday and some kid asked for a script that auto targets enemies in a custom WAD he was building, and like six people jumped in with code for him. That bugged me way more than it should have. Half the fun of making a mod is tuning the weapon feel yourself, tweaking the spread, learning how the engine handles hitboxes, breaking stuff and fixing it at 2am. If you slap auto aim on top of that, you are not modding Doom anymore, you are just watching it play itself. I spent three weekends last month getting a shotgun replacement to feel good in my little E1M1 edit, and yeah it was painful, but that pain is the hobby. Handing that part off to a script means you never learn why your gun feels bad in the first place. So is this just me being an old man about it, or are we actually losing something when we automate the hard parts?
